Repair technician

As a Bench Technician you will be responsible for troubleshooting, programming, and repairing of all tiers of Motorola radio products down to the component level. These products will include portables, mobiles and repeaters.

Bench Tech Responsibilities:

  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions and daily service schedules to do repairs.
  • Follow tests procedures, schematics and other instructions and troubleshoots to the component level (analog and digital circuitry) with the use of instrumentation and test aids.
  • Interfaces with Production, Quality Control and Engineering on recurring and/or workmanship problems, to make suggestions on component or design changes and for training on newly released products.
  • Repairs and/or replaces the respective components.
  • Interfaces with vendors on troubleshooting of other OEM radio products.
  • Fills out repair report with a detailed failure analysis, and noting correct assembly/model numbers, physical damage cosmetic defects, functional defects, components replaced.
  • Fills out repair estimates when requested by customer or supervisor and submits requisition for parts needed to perform repairs.
  • Notifies supervisor when not meeting scheduled target dates.
  • Interfaces with Service Manager on the completion of service reports.
  • Supports supervisor on the training of fellow technicians.
  • Communicates with customers by phone on repair orders and product troubleshooting.
  • Interfaces with Sales on loaner/demo products to be programmed for potential customers and/or returned from the field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Tools.
  • Travels to the field upon request, including possibly working for extended periods of time in petrochemical plants.
  • Very fluent in using instrumentation (service monitors, oscilloscope, watt meters, frequency generator, frequency counter, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Current experience with Two-Way radio products.
  • Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent certification plus 3+ years of experience desired.
  • Extensive troubleshooting experience to the component level, including both analog and digital circuitry.
  • Able to troubleshoot OEM radio products with or without schematics and OEM assemblies.
  • Candidates must have experience meeting daily production goals in a fast paced environment.
  • Previous employment with Motorola, Two-Way radio dealers, Public Safety repair shops and other manufacturers is a plus.
  • Certifications on a variety of OEM radio equipment models needed.
  • Very fluent in using instrumentation (service monitors, oscilloscope, watt meters, frequency generator, frequency counter, etc.).
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Background checks are part of our hiring process, which may include a Motor Vehicle check.
